Surpasses $25K Fundraising Goal
For the second year in a row, the Morton 201 Foundation hosted an online auction to raise money for its Pay It Forward Scholarship Fund. Since 2019, the Foundation has awarded 22 scholarships totaling $30,000.
Last year, after learning from many of our students how the pandemic not only affected their families’ health but also them financially, the Morton 201 Foundation decided to change the name of its auction to the Support Local Online Auction as a way to promote local businesses while still raising money for scholarships.
“Since many of our students’ parents work in the food service industry, when restaurants were shut down or had to reduce staff, it left a devastating financial burden on their families. Suddenly, they went from worrying about how they were going to pay for college to how they were going to put food on the table or pay the rent,” stated Foundation President Jessica Jaramillo-Flores. “By changing the name of our auction to support local businesses, we hope to rebuild the businesses within our community thereby relieving that financial burden.”
To help promote its efforts, the Morton 201 Foundation partnered with the Berwyn Development Corporation and the Cicero Chamber of Commerce. The Support Local Online Auction took place from November 28 to December 4.
Thanks to the generous support of many local businesses and individuals, the Foundation received 100 amazing auction items valued at over $12,300 and was able to surpass its fundraising goal of $25,000.
